Bringing a touch of whimsy with its turquoise-lined storefront to Chicago’s West Town, Aya Pastry (1332 West Grand Avenue), a commissary and soon-to-be brick-and-mortar, brings a wide-range of playful breads, cakes and pastries by Michelin-starred pastry chef Aya Fukai. Describing her creations as honest and light-hearted, Fukai is not just building a local bakery, but a community, one pastry at a time. With Chicago Tribune Pastry Chef of the Year (2018), James Beard Foundation Outstanding Pastry Chef nominee (2017) and Eater National Pastry Chef of the Year (2016) awards under her belt, Fukai’s goal is to provide the most delicious and beautiful high-quality, yet approachable, baked goods to all for a range of everyday and special occasions. Aya Pastry product is available online for pickup seven days a week (72-hours in advance) and can be found in a variety of the city’s best restaurants, cafes and local grocers.
